Answer Engine Optimization Case Study: TaxDome #1
When accountants and tax pros ask ChatGPT which practice-management software to use, TaxDome isn't just in the conversation it's the answer.
ChatGPT now names TaxDome in 82% of those answers, 97.5% of mentions are positive and it's usually ranked near the very top (~2nd–3rd).

Introduction
TaxDome is an all-in-one practice management platform for accounting, tax and bookkeeping firms, workflows, client portal, document management, billing and CRM in one place.
It was already one of the best-known names in its category, so the question was never whether AI knew TaxDome, it was whether TaxDome could turn a strong lead into near-ubiquity on the questions buyers actually ask, and defend that position against names like Karbon, Canopy and Jetpack Workflow.

What we did
TaxDome already runs a strong content engine. CrowdReply complemented it with focused, genuinely helpful engagement in the communities where accountants and bookkeepers compare tools, contributing useful answers on-topic, never spammy so that both buyers and the AI assistants reading those communities keep encountering TaxDome as the credible default.
The questions TaxDome is winning on
Across its tracked questions TaxDome sits at the top of the category. The clearest movement over the period came on the questions where it had the most room to grow:

More wins
Competitor analysis
TaxDome is consistently recommended above the other established practice-management platforms and it wins the head-to-head “which is better” questions outright:
Karbon
Canopy
Jetpack Workflow
Financial Cents
Ignition
Liscio
Pixie
It appears in 90% of “best alternative to Canopy” answers and is chosen over Jetpack Workflow on “which is better” questions capturing buyers at the exact moment they're comparing options.

It owns its citations and the comparison conversation
When ChatGPT backs up these answers with sources, TaxDome's own website is the #2 most-cited source overall (behind only Reddit). What's notable is which pages get cited: TaxDome has built content that owns the entire comparison conversation including head-to-heads between its competitors:
The lesson for everyone else: Owning your citations is the part you fully control and TaxDome is the gold standard.
It doesn't just publish “best software” guides; it writes the “alternatives to [competitor]” and even “[competitor] vs [competitor]” pages, so it becomes the trusted source AI reads no matter how the buyer phrases the question. This comparison-content strategy is the single most repeatable, fully-internal way to dominate AI answers.
Top cited sources overall
Across all the answers, here are the sources ChatGPT cited most with TaxDome's own site at #2, just behind Reddit:

Where it happened: the communities
TaxDome's traction is reinforced by being genuinely helpful in the communities where its buyers spend time such as firm owners, accountants and bookkeepers.
CrowdReply helped it join these conversations naturally and on-topic, contributing useful answers rather than promotions. The most active communities included:
Accounting & CPA communities
Tax-professional communities
Bookkeeping communities

Supporting momentum: SEO and AI grow together
During the same window, TaxDome's traditional Google search traffic also climbed from ~77,000 visits/month to ~96,000 (peaking around 123,000), ranking for 5,903 keywords (2,512 of them in the top 3 spots).
This is the flywheel at full strength: the same comparison guides that earn top Google rankings are the exact pages ChatGPT cites most. Winning in search and being recommended by AI reinforce each other; one content strategy, two compounding channels.

Recommendations: how to win even more
Actionable next steps we'd prioritise to push TaxDome's AI visibility further:
Defend the comparison moat (highest ROI). TaxDome's “alternatives” and “vs” pages are its biggest AI asset. Keep them fresh and add new ones as competitors emerge since this is fully internal and the hardest advantage for rivals to copy.
Close the last few gaps. A handful of questions (e.g. “best software for CPAs,” “better than Jetpack Workflow”) dipped slightly. Refreshing those specific pages should lock them back up.
Expand beyond ChatGPT. This dominance is concentrated in ChatGPT. Applying the same content-and-community playbook to Gemini and Perplexity would extend TaxDome's lead to the assistants it isn't tracked on yet.
Scale the community presence. Engagement here was relatively light for a brand this size. Since Reddit is the #1 cited source in this category, a steadier, helpful presence directly strengthens the sources AI reads.
